High-Performance Graphite Gasket Sheet: Extreme Temperature Sealing
Welcome to Indgas, a leading provider of advanced sealing solutions. Our high-performance graphite gasket sheet is made from pure exfoliated graphite, crafted to deliver reliable seals across demanding industrial and automotive environments. When exposed to extreme temperature cycles, high pressure, and aggressive chemicals, many gasket materials fail. Indgas graphite sheets keep flanges tight and resist blow-out, where fibre-based gaskets often deteriorate. We supply graphite gasket materials engineered for steam, petrochemical, power generation, and automotive applications.
The Science of Pure
Graphite Gasket Material
Thermal & Pressure Extremes
Graphite gasket material is prized for thermal stability. It retains sealing performance at continuous temperatures beyond 400°C and up to 500°C, depending on oxidation conditions. In non-oxidising atmospheres the material will tolerate much higher temperatures, making it ideal for high-temperature steam and hydrocarbon systems where conventional gaskets lose integrity. It also holds up under fluctuating pressures and repeated thermal cycling.
Metallic Inserts for Strength
To increase mechanical strength and blow-out resistance, we reinforce graphite sheets with stainless steel inserts, commonly 316SS. These inserts are available in tanged and flat formats. The reinforcement improves tensile strength and flange retention, while leaving compressibility and sealing properties essentially unchanged.
Chemical Compatibility
Pure graphite resists steam, hot water, thermal oils, and a wide range of petrochemicals. The main limitation is strong oxidising agents, which can degrade graphite. Selecting the correct grade and considering the process media is important for long-term service.
Compressibility & Recovery
Graphite’s natural compressibility lets it conform to irregular, pitted, or slightly damaged flange surfaces. The result is a micro-seal that improves fluid containment and reduces leakage risk, even under changing pressures. It recovers well after load changes, which helps maintain seal integrity through thermal cycles.
Versatile Graphite Sheet Choices &
Precision Cut Gaskets
Premium Sheet Materials
Indgas supplies a wide range of graphite sheet stock, including plain pure graphite and wire-reinforced, tanged sheets in common thicknesses such as 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm. These stocks support on-site fabrication and repair work.
Precision Cut Gaskets
We produce precision-cut graphite gasket parts, from inner bolt circle (IBC) rings to full-face gaskets and complex custom profiles. Each piece is machined to exact dimensions and delivered ready for installation.
Spiral Wound Components
Graphite filler materials from our sheets are widely used in spiral wound and kammprofile gaskets. These components are well suited to high-pressure pipeline sealing and other demanding flange applications.
Proven Applications:
From Steam Lines to Exhaust Systems
Refining & Petrochemical Industries
Indgas graphite gasket sheets are applied across crude oil pipelines, heat exchangers, and high-temperature chemical transfer lines. Their thermal resilience and blow-out resistance make them suitable where safety and long-term sealing are critical.
Power Generation
Graphite gasket materials are a common choice for high-pressure steam boilers and turbines. They provide the thermal and mechanical durability required for continuous, demanding service.
Automotive & Marine
Graphite sheets serve as durable head gaskets in engines and as exhaust gaskets capable of coping with manifold heat and exhaust gas corrosion. They perform well under repeated temperature swings typical of automotive and marine use.

Graphite Gasket Material:
Technical FAQ
What Is The Maximum Operating Temperature For A Graphite Gasket Sheet?
Graphite gasket sheets typically endure up to 450°C in oxidising environments. In inert or non-oxidising atmospheres, they can withstand temperatures above 800°C.
What Is The Difference Between A Plain Graphite Sheet And A Tanged Insert Sheet?
Tanged sheets include stainless steel inserts to enhance tensile strength and blow-out resistance for high-pressure applications. Plain sheets provide greater compressibility and conformity.
Can Graphite Be Used As A Graphite Exhaust Gasket?
Yes. Graphite exhaust gaskets perform well under high heat and frequent temperature changes in engine exhaust manifolds, thanks to good thermal stability and corrosion resistance to typical exhaust gases.
Is Graphite Compatible With High-Pressure Steam?
Graphite gasket materials are widely used for high-pressure steam flanges, offering reliable sealing and resistance to thermal cycling.
